They're coming at us fast and furious...more calendars dedicated to the great sports of wakeboarding and wakeskating than we've ever seen before. As is usually the case, more choices mean good things for the consumer. Since I knew you'd all be looking to get a calendar for yourself and would also be picking up a few for stocking stuffers this holiday season, I took the liberty of compiling the photos from each and every one of these offerings so that you can make an informed decision. After checking out our wake calendar photo galleries, you'll probably want to pick up one of each.
WakeboardingCalendar.com has made their debut in the calendar market with a fine collection of wakeboarding and wakeskating pics. Photographers include Bill Doster, Josh Letchworth, Joey Meddock and others. Locations look to be mostly in Florida, but October looks like Nor Cal and December is definitely Lake Powell. My favorite shot is either Danny Hampson's kickflip in February or Darin Shapiro's triple front attempt in March. You can pick up this calendar online at wakeboardingcalendar.com for $11.99. Video producer and distributor, Sidewayz, entered the calendar market in 2004 and apparently had some success because they're back for 2005. Their calendar has more of an artsy feel to it with wakeboarding and wakeskating pics surrounded by all kinds of strange drawings and effects. Most of the pics were taken by Sidewayz' own Duane Sempson. My favorite month is December, which has Parks and his dreds spinning through the air with his trademark plaid shorts. You can grab this calendar online at Boardflix.com for $9.95, or at just about any dealer that carries videos. Click here to view the photos.
Liquid Force is another first timer in the calendar market for 2005, but they are entering the fray with a vengeance. The new calendar was shot in its entirety at Lake Powell this past summer, so the scenery is fantastic. Almost all of their top riders are featured, but I was a little bummed that Emily Copeland, one of their most photogenic riders, didn't have a month of her own. All of the photos were snapped by Joey Meddock. My favorite shots would have to be Watson's cover on the curved rail or Melissa's grab in December. Look for this one at any Liquid Force dealer. Although technically there isn't any wakeboarding in this calendar, we felt it needed to be included in our calendar roundup. In our defense, bikinis are very much wakeboarding related and if you look closely, you'll see wakeboarding towers and equipment in the background of each shot. That's right, Monster Tower is back for 2005 with it's second Monster Girls calendar. This year's version is probably a little tamer than last year's, but I'll let you be the judge as to whether or not it will satisfy somebody on your gift list (including yourself). Since we're picking favorites, I'm going to have to give the nod to April (that's the month, not her name). To get your own copy, click on MonsterTower.com and they'll part with them for $9 each or three for $18. I bet if you buy a tower, they'd even throw a few in for free. Click here to view the photos.
